Andres Duany (born 7 September 1949 in New York City) is an American architect and urban planner who, with his wife and partner Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, founded the firm Duany Plater-Zyberk and Company (DPZ) in Miami in 1980. DPZ first became known for designing whole new towns built around traditional, walkable neighborhood patterns, including Seaside, Florida and Kentlands, Maryland, and Duany went on to co-found the Congress for the New Urbanism in 1993, becoming one of the leading practitioners and theorists of the New Urbanist movement that grew out of that work. He has been awarded the Vincent Scully Prize by the National Building Museum, the Thomas Jefferson Medal in Architecture, and the Richard H. Driehaus Prize for Classical Architecture, among other honors.
