Chinese American architect, 1917 to 2019, master of crisp geometric modernism in stone, concrete and glass: the East Building of the National Gallery in Washington, the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, and the glass pyramid at the Louvre, reviled when proposed and beloved within a decade. He received the Pritzker Prize in 1983.
