Italian architect, born 1937, who burst into view as co-designer with Richard Rogers of the Centre Pompidou in 1977 and went on to a career of luminous, precisely detailed museums and towers: the Menil Collection in Houston, the Kansai Airport terminal, and the Shard in London. He received the Pritzker Prize in 1998.
