The great amphitheater of Rome, dedicated in AD 80 under the emperor Titus, seating tens of thousands for spectacles on a plan of concrete vaults and superimposed arcades carrying the Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders one above another. It is the largest amphitheater ever built and the most complete demonstration of Roman structural engineering surviving.
