The palace of Louis XIV outside Paris, enlarged from a hunting lodge in great campaigns from 1661 under the architects Louis Le Vau and Jules Hardouin-Mansart, the painter Charles Le Brun and the garden designer Andre Le Notre. Its Hall of Mirrors and axial gardens made it the model of the Baroque court palace, imitated by monarchies across Europe.
