Notre-Dame Fire and Restoration

On 15 April 2019 fire destroyed the roof and nineteenth century spire of Notre-Dame de Paris and nearly brought down the whole cathedral. The five year restoration that followed, rebuilding the oak roof frame and spire with medieval and nineteenth century techniques, returned the cathedral to worship in December 2024, the most watched act of architectural conservation ever undertaken.
