The International Charter for the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites, adopted by the Second International Congress of Architects and Technicians of Historic Monuments in Venice in 1964, which set the modern principles of authenticity, minimal intervention and reversibility that still govern conservation practice, and led directly to the founding of ICOMOS the following year as its custodian body.
