In 1103 Emperor Huizong ordered the publication of the Yingzao Fashi, the technical building manual Li Jie had completed around 1100, to provide architectural standards for builders, architects and the engineering agencies of the central government. A second edition followed in 1145, and it remains the earliest Chinese technical building manual to survive intact.
