A charitable trust that cares for over 400 historic sites, monuments and buildings across England, including Stonehenge, Dover Castle and sections of Hadrian's Wall. The Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England was formed under the National Heritage Act 1983 on 1 April 1984 and operated under the name English Heritage; on 1 April 2015 the organization split into two, Historic England, which took on the statutory heritage protection and listing functions, and the new English Heritage Trust, the charity that now cares for the historic properties themselves.
