A scholarly society, founded on July 31, 1940 as the Society of American Architectural Historians and based in Chicago, Illinois, devoted to the study, interpretation and conservation of architecture, design and urban form worldwide. It publishes the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians and occupies the James Charnley House at 1365 North Astor Street, an 1892 Chicago design by Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright.
