The glamorous style of the 1920s and 1930s, named after the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs: stepped profiles, sunbursts, zigzags and rich materials, machine-age optimism made ornamental. Its greatest monuments are the New York skyscrapers of the boom years, the Chrysler Building above all.
