Architect of Vicenza and the Veneto, 1508 to 1580, whose villas, palaces and churches distilled Roman classicism into a calm, rule-governed manner, and whose Four Books of Architecture of 1570 carried it around the world. Through English and American Palladianism his influence reached from country houses to the public buildings of the young United States, making him by common account the most imitated architect in history.

Villa Rotonda, Buildings and Structures

Palladio designed the villa and construction began in 1567, but he died in 1580 before it was finished; Vincenzo Scamozzi completed it to a modified design by 1605.
