A villa on a hilltop outside Vicenza, designed by Andrea Palladio for Paolo Almerico and begun in 1567, completed in 1605 by Vincenzo Scamozzi after both the architect and the original patron had died. Its perfectly symmetrical plan, with a projecting portico on all four sides around a central domed rotunda, was directly inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and became one of the most widely copied designs in Western architecture. It was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 as part of the City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto.
