In February 1932 the Museum of Modern Art in New York opened Modern Architecture: International Exhibition, curated by Henry-Russell Hitchcock and Philip Johnson. The show and its accompanying book gave the new European architecture its American name, the International Style, and framed modernism as a style, a framing its European founders never fully accepted.
