The German school of design founded by Walter Gropius at Weimar in 1919, moved to Dessau in 1925 into the glass-walled building Gropius designed for it, and closed under Nazi pressure in Berlin in 1933. In fourteen years it fused craft workshops, industrial method and modern art teaching into the most influential design curriculum of the twentieth century, and its emigrating teachers carried it worldwide.
